Bobby Stoky grew up fishing and diving off of the Florida Keys, and has been a resident of the Upper Keys for over 35 years. As the son of a charter boat captain, young Bobby learned early on how to catch, clean, and cook fish, conch, shrimp, and many other Keys delicacies. In 1982 his parents became the proprietors of Señor Frijoles Mexican Restaurant, where Bobby began learning the many skills of a Chef.
In 1985, the Stoky family opened Sundowners Restaurant where Bobby continued to hone his culinary skills. Today, he oversees 8 restaurants from Miami to Islamorada, working on the menus and recipes that have made these Florida Keys restaurants legendary. His cookbook, “Recipes and Tall Tales from Legendary Restaurants of the Florida Keys” is a compilation of over 25 years in the restaurant business and a lifetime in the Keys.
Stoky’s recipes have appeared in the Miami Herald, The Reporter, The Free Press, and in the Weekly Newspapers’ “Keys Epicurean” feature, where Chef Bobby is a regular columnist writing on recipes and interesting facts about restaurants throughout the Keys. He also appears frequently on Scuba Nation and Florida Insider, and has been a guest on Linda Gassenheimer’s Topical Current’s Food News & Views show on WLRN.
